I never met Brendan Behan, but my mother did, at this actual spot. It was a very hot day, not like today, and mother was walking back to Phibsboro after a shopping trip to Dorset Street (which was then quite a busy shopping street, like Henry Street, but has since declined).
Brendan was sitting in his shirt sleeves, shoes and socks off, on the bank of the canal, with his feet cooling in the water. Mother looked at him as she passed, and he said "Hello, Missus." That's all.
